With Haymitch being the beloved character that he is, it can be difficult to write a book that encompasses all that he is while explaining who he was before. Collins wrote a masterful book doing just that.
Getting to see the way that Haymitch was before his games, and the slow progression as the book continues was brilliant! She also kept a fantastic pacing that everything got it’s moment, nothing felt rushed or over or underdeveloped. This was better than a Ballad of Song Birds and Snakes!
Haymitch is one of my personal favorite characters in the Hunger Games world and I loved being able to explore his mind and see more of the games that are casually mentioned during the original three books.
This was a fantastic addition to the universe! I loved seeing familiar characters and how they all work together prior to Peeta and Katniss. Not only that, but the epilogue at the end of Haymitch discussing our favorite “star-crossed lovers” from district 12 really made it feel complete and like it complemented the original series and added to it, not just something floating out on it’s own.
In short, a truly fantastic book that I cannot praise enough! I highly recommend this for all Hunger Games fans and I truly enjoyed the experience!
